AREAS OF SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS

I. Basic Immunology. Natural Immunity. Mechanisms of natural resistance and antigen non-specific immunoreactivity, as the most essential and unique form of organism protection. The regularities of complement system functioning, the role of its components in numerous infections, allergic and autoimmune diseases, functional and biochemical methods of complement system studies. Autoantibodies, natural antibodies, Th1/Th2 regulation.

II. Ecologic Immunology. Influence of ecologic factors of biologic, physical and chemical nature on human immune system. Damages in the immune system of healthy individuals as a decisive point to form immunodependent pathology. Effects of small radiation doses on immune status in early and late post-Chernobyl accident periods. Immune system functions in children, residing on radionuclide-contaminated territories, methods of immunocorrection.

III. Clinical and Experimental Immunology. Functions of T-system immunity, immunoregulation; mechanisms of hypersensitivity (delayed type) formation as an effector link in the cellular immunity. Individual immunoreactivity (antigen specific response/non-responsiveness) of the organism to bacterial antigens and mitogens, which allow to increase diagnosis efficacy in infectious diseases (AIDS, hepatitis B & C, tuberculosis, klebsielosis, chlamydiosis, trichinellosis etc.); methods of immune reactivity estimation and new approaches to immunocorrection, tumor immunology - immunology of lung cancer.

IV. Bacteriology. Clinical bacteriology (anaerobic bacteria – Clostridium difficile, bacteroides, gram-negative bacteria – family of Enterobacteriacceae) and Corynebacterium diphtheriae. Hospital infections monitoring of the resistance bacteria to antibiotics). Molecular-genetic investigation of the Mycobacteria tuberculosis infection.
