Main R&D activities are control on effectiveness of planned immunization of population and investigation of the epidemiology of controlled infections, chiefly, poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, and diphtheria. The Lab is working in close contact with sanitary and epidemiological institutions in Belarus as well as with WHO Office for Europe, European Lab Working Group on Diphtheria, and with leading world labs in the field of investigation of viruses of poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, and Corynebacteria diphtheria. Three National Centers on coordination work in the field of problems of poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, and diphtheria are functioning on the basis of the Lab.

The documents for the Certification on Poliomyelitis Eradication in Belarus have being received according to epidemiological surveillance data supplied on poliomyelitis. On the basis of scientific developments combined schedule of immunization against poliomyelitis (inactive/live poliovaccine). It was grounded the strategy of cancellation of immunization with live poliovaccine by way of substitution on inactive vaccine till achieving a global eradication of wild polioviruses.
